Make a Splash in Cambridgeshire this Summer
With the thermometer rising are your thoughts turning to a fabulous outdoor pool for a dip? If you fancy enjoying the British summertime al fresco, why not visit one of the fantastic lido’s or lakes here in Cambridgeshire.
The Jesus Green Lido opened in 1923 and it is one of the few remaining examples of the lidos built across the country in the 1920’s. Unusually, the pool is significantly longer than it is wide which was a design idea to mimic swimming in the nearby river. Located alongside the River Cam opposite Chesterton Road between Jesus Lock and Victoria Avenue Bridge, they have a newly built sauna, sunbathing space and it is paved on one side with grass on the other. It is open for public swimming between May and September every year. To find out more please visit the website.
The lake at Milton Country Park is very popular for open water swimming. Todd’s Pit is the smallest of the two lakes and is used for a variety of water sports and activities. The water is safe, sheltered and regularly tested to ensure its quality – the water exceeds the UK standards recommended for bathing water and has been rated ‘excellent’. Swimmers must complete a form before taking a dip and wear a brightly coloured swim hat. The season runs until September and sessions take place on Friday evenings, Saturday mornings and Wednesday mornings.
If total immersion and ‘Total Wipeout’ is more your style to cool down then we recommend heading to the fabulous Cambridge Aqua Park in inflatable assault course in Stretham where you can jump, swing and bounce your way round the lake. If all that activity is not for you then you can relax on picnic benches and watch all the exertion going on around you. An hour’s session costs £20 and includes a wetsuit and lifejacket.
